Scaling and Root Planing

Our team can fight the effects of gum disease with a treatment known as a deep cleaning, or scaling and root planing in Keizer, Oregon. if you are concerned about gum disease or have noticed some of the early symptoms, call Keizer Rapids Dental at 503-393-6286 to schedule your visit today.

While gum disease can have several different causes, the most common cause is the buildup of plaque and tartar on the surfaces of your teeth. As these substances accumulate, your gums respond by swelling, which allows more plaque and bacteria to work its way below your gumline. In scaling and root planing, our dentists will give you a local anesthetic and then begin to access the pockets between your teeth and gums to remove the plaque and tartar. At our office we use instruments and water irrigation to give your teeth the cleaning that they need. In the second step, we will clean and smooth the roots of your teeth, giving plaque and tartar less of a surface to cling to, and allowing your roots to form healthy attachments to your jawbone. This treatment is very effective when your gum disease is in it’s earliest stages, and so it is extremely important that you see our dentists every six months for your regular cleaning and exams.
