When your tooth has a small to medium size cavity, we can repair it with a filling. This process involves numbing the tooth, removing the decayed part of the tooth and replacing that part of the tooth with a dental filling material.
When you have a large cavity or fractured tooth, a crown is typically required to restore the tooth. Large decay or a tooth fracture structurally weakens your tooth, so a filling would not be enough to fix your tooth. A crown is a restoration that wraps all the way around and over the top of your tooth to structurally reinforce the tooth. A bridge is a way to replace missing teeth using a string of crowns.
There is a hollow space inside your tooth and root called root canal space and it is filled with soft tissue (nerves and blood vessels) that we call the pulp. If your pulp becomes infected through a deep cavity or exposed through a fracture, you will need a root canal. Most teeth will need a crown after a root canal to structurally reinforce your tooth and prevent it from cracking and needing to be pulled.
A partial denture is a relatively inexpensive way to replace one, or many teeth. There are several steps to making a partial denture including preparing your existing teeth to fit with the partial, taking impressions, adjusting your bite, and selecting the final teeth that we will use. In the end you have a great replacement for all of your missing teeth. A denture is like a partial denture, but instead of replacing some of your teeth we replace them all.
In our practice we love working with kids. Every staff member in our office is a parent and we treat your children as gently and compassionately as if they were our own kids. Our number one priority when dealing with children, especially very small children, is not to “fix their teeth” but to help them grow up to enjoy their trips to the dentist and to not be afraid or avoid the dentist later in life. We are big advocates for fluoride and highly encourage all children to have fluoride treatments to help prevent cavities in the future.
A dental implant is the best solution to replace missing teeth. It is a screw that is placed into your jaw bone with a screw hole on the inside which allows us to attach something to the implant. Typically we attach a crown but for dentures it is also an amazing way to help hold the dentures in place.
Sometimes teeth need to be removed. There are a variety of reasons for this including advanced decay or fractures. Whatever the reason, we take all possible steps to ensure that the experience is as painless and comfortable for you as possible.
The dental examination is one of the most important steps in your treatment. This is where we identify issues and develop solutions to restore you to optimum oral health. We present our findings, give you the options including the risks and the alternatives, and have a conversation with you about what you would like to do. In dentistry, as in most of life, there is no “one size fits all”.
This is the most important procedure that we perform. The importance of having your teeth professionally cleaned and regularly checked by a dentist cannot be overstated. We can all agree that catching issues when they’re small and resolving them at that point is a much better option than waiting until the issue is bigger. But the cleaning appointment is even more than that. We check for cavities, infection, bone loss, cancer, and take time to address any additional needs you may have.
A mouth guard, or "night guard", is a device that has many benefits including taking the force of your grinding off of your teeth, maintaining a space if you are missing a tooth, relieving TMJ issues, prevent future fractures, and acts as a retainer for your teeth.
We can make you “bleach trays” that you take home. This is significantly more effective than other the counter options. Treatment is usually one to two treatments per week and varies in strength based on your individual needs.
We also offer in office whitening. This is an hour long appointment and you will leave typically 2-4 shades lighter at the end of the appointment. This can be repeated multiple times until you reach the shade that you are looking for. This is the strongest whitening option available and is not suitable for every person.
